Looking for some fun holiday events to take your toddlers to this month? Here are some fun ideas around the Salt Lake valley that they are sure to enjoy, and the best part is that several of these events are free!

Holiday Seasonal: Grand America Hotel Holiday Display and Angel Tree

Families can see the Gingerbread Village, Teddy Bear Town and an Angel Tree at The Grand America Hotel through December 20th.

Holiday Seasonal: Gardner Village's Elf Scavenger Hunt
Gardner Village

Families can explore Gardner Village's elf displays during the annual Elf Hunt. Children can pick up a form at any village store, or print one out from the Gardner Village website, then search for the answers throughout the village. Once the form is completed, bring it to Sweet Afton's and receive a free sugar stick.

Christmas Village
Municipal Park

Every Christmas season, Ogden's Municipal Park is transformed into the Christmas Village filled with quaint themed cottages and holiday lights. Families can peruse the displays, listen to live entertainment (Tue-Fri 6pm-7:30pm), visit with Santa (Mon-Fri 6pm-9pm and Sat 5pm-9pm through Dec 23), and take a guided tour through the village with the one and only Mrs. Claus (tours run Mon-Fri 9am-3pm; call for reservations). Those with holiday shopping to do can peruse the Christmas Village Store, open Mon-Fri 6pm to 9pm and Sat 5pm to 9pm. Photos with Santa can be purchased for $5, or bring your own camera.

Holiday Seasonal: Holiday Village and Light Display
Sandy City South Towne Promenade

Families can admire the holiday lights around City Hall and then head inside to see a miniature village display. The outdoor lights are on every night. The village display can be seen Mon-Fri during business hours. City Hall is at the north end of the Sandy South Towne Promenade.

Temple Square Christmas Lights

Millions of tiny lights set Temple Square aglow for the holidays. Lights are turned on around dusk on November 27, and remain lit nightly through December 31. Choral groups provide music every hour nightly.

A drive through light display featuring more than one million lights, holiday music, and a series of displays that share the meaning of Christmas. Wagon Rides are offered at $3/person, and trolley rides cost $2/person. Editor's note: This is not offered Christmas Day.

Candlelight Christmas

The pioneer villagers host evenings of old fashioned yuletide. Families can make homemade ornaments for the tree, visit with Father Christmas, learn an old fashioned dance at the schoolhouse, see live reindeer, watch a puppet show, and climb aboard the Candlelight Express. Zoo Lights
Utah's Hogle Zoo

Over a million holiday lights adorn the zoo grounds, and families can see nearly 200 lighted animal figures (many of which are animated), listen to live music by local performers (Fridays, Saturdays, and Mondays only), and take part in activities. Seasonal treats such as deep-fried s'mores, soups, and hot chocolate are available for purchase. Members receive $1 off admission, plus receive another $1 off admission on Member Nights (Dec 1-3). Note: Zoo Lights is not offered on December 24 and 25.

Fantasy at the Bay

WWillard Bay hosts its annual Christmas lights drive-through display, featuring animated displays, lighted trees, and many favorites from years past - Bears Camp, the Elves Workshop, Reindeer Flight School, and more. Families can see live reindeer in the park on most nights, and free horse-drawn wagon rides through the light park (not offered on Sundays and Thursdays). Hamburgers, chili, hot chocolate, and other concessions are available at very reasonable prices. Guests can also warm up by a campfire.

Holiday Seasonal: Polar Express Train Ride

Inspired by Chris Van Allsburg's award winning book, the Polar Express Train Ride allows families to take a ride to the North Pole to see Santa. While on the journey, families can enjoy hot drinks, treats, holiday carols, and a Christmas story. Advance purchase is required, by phone or via the website; reserve early for this popular holiday ride. Children are welcome to wear PJs, but be sure to dress for the weather. Kids ages two and under ride free on parent's lap. The ride is also offered December 21-23.
