It was announced this morning that Salt Lake County Animal Services is a contestant in the ASPCA $100K Challenge.

The ASPCA  is challenging 50 shelters across America to increase their adoptions, increase the number of lost pets reunited with their owners and better their TNR (trap neuter and return) programs.  The program runs from August 1, 2010 until October 31, 2010.

The main award of $100,000 will go to the shelter who's numbers of the three criteria listed above, is increased the greatest based on the previous year's statistics.

To kick off this great challenge, Salt Lake County Animal Services is providing a $50.00 discount on dog adoptions as well as providing a free box of treats with every adopted dog from August 2 through August 7, 2010.

Currently, Salt Lake County Animal Services is also providing FREE adoptions for all cats and kittens.

All adoptions come with a free bag of food to get you started out.  Also included in all adoptions are sterilization of the pet, a microchip and vaccinations.

“We are very excited to join the 50 other shelters across the nation that are participating in this challenge to save more pet lives in our communities,” says Shawni Larrabee, Director. “With all of the changes and new programs at the County shelter, combined with all of the amazing pet loving citizens in our community, we believe we have a very good chance of winning this challenge.”
