Salt Lake Bruins baseball ended their regular and post seasons last weekend with a first place slot for the regular season in Region 18 of the Scenic West Athletic Conference (SWAC), and as runners-up at the Region 18 tournament.

As the No. 1 seed, the Bruins hosted the double-elimination tournament at Cate Field in West Jordan, held May 7-10. After losing to the No. 2 seed Western Nevada Wildcats in their first meeting, the Bruins bounced back in dramatic fashion, beating No. 3 seed College of Southern Nevada Coyotes on a walk-off RBI single by third baseman Derrick Whitney.

The win set up a rematch between the Bruins and Wildcats for the Region 18 championship title. The Wildcats, who went undefeated throughout the tournament, ended up winning the championship game by a final score of 8-4. Wildcats right fielder Nate Bennett, named All-Tournament MVP, sealed the victory with a grand slam in the bottom of the seventh inning. The Wildcats advance to the next round of post-season play at the Western District Tournament, hosted by the South Mountain Community College Cougars, in Arizona next weekend, May 15-17.
