With the win by the Salt Lake Bees over the Tacoma Rainiers on August 29, the Bees guaranteed themselves the Pacific Conference Northern Division championship title and a Pacific Coast League (PCL) postseason playoff slot. The last time the Bees made the playoffs was in 2008; they lost in the first round to the eventual Triple- A champions, Sacramento River Cats.
The opening round of the playoffs begins on September 4 with the Pacific Conference championship series. The Bees will face the Pacific Conference Southern Division champions with two games at home, Spring Mobile Ballpark, to open the five-game playoff series. Games three, four and five (if needed) will be played at the Southern Division champions’ home ballpark. The Las Vegas 51s appear poised to win the Southern Division title, with a two-game lead over the Sacramento River Cats.
Round two constitutes the PCL Championship series, with the winner of Pacific Conference facing the winner of the American Conference. Should the Bees advance, they will start the series with two games on the road, returning to play games three, four and five (if needed) at home.
The winner of the PCL championship advances to face the International League champions in a one-game competition to determine the 2013 Triple-A Baseball National Champion. This year’s Triple-A championship game will be held on September 17, at Coca-Cola Park in Allentown, PA.
