It’s a chance to play on the edge without having to worry about going over (budget, at least).
Salt Lake City’s first ever Fearless Fringe Festival will be held Aug. Aug. 27-29 at Salt Lake Acting Company. The festival will showcase three new works by local artists in various stages of production: “Yoga Confidential,” “sam i was,” and “The Harvey Girls.” Though the company has long worked to present new work on an individual basis, need from playwrights inspired SLAC to find a way to get all three in front of audiences.
“Yoga Confidential,” written by yoga teacher, long-time performer, and SB Dance impresario Stephen Brown, is a humorous, semi-philosophical (and semi-scatological) look at the world of yoga. The show will be performed August 27 and 28 at 7 p.m. The also-autobiographical “sam i was,” written by Sam Wessels, is a musical memoir about his leukemia diagnosis and treatment. The play, which was workshopped in 2009 at the Yale Institute for Musical Theatre, will be performed Aug. 27 at 9 p.m. and Aug. 28 at 2 p.m. “The Harvey Girls,” written by well-known Utah playwright Julie Jensen, is a peek into the lives of some of the women who sought to tame the West. There will be a reading of the play on August 29 at 1 p.m.
Tickets to the show are $12 each (or $24 for all three) and are available either online or by calling 801-363-7522.
