It took salsa singer Marc Anthony twenty plus years for all his accomplishments and ten years to release his latest solo album which garnered him four "Premio Lo Nuestro" awards and the most important "Premio Lo Nuestro" recognition - Excellence Award Thursday night in Miami, Fla.
Salsa music kind of was put on the back burner with other music genres developing but lately salsa music is revolutionizing. The names are Marc Anthony and Sergio George who was the producer of Marc's successful "3.0" album last spring. Marc himself can't believe how his music has exploded even more after the release of his first hit song "Vivir Mi Vida" which ranked number one on Billboard Latin music chart and on radio airplay immediately. The catchy salsa song has been a hymn and inspirational song for all ages.
The first award won by Marc was Tropical Salsa Artist of the Year beating Victor Manuelle, N'Klabe and Juan Esteban. Marc Anthony dedicated his speech to Venezuela when he received the award for Best Tropical Song of the Year for "Vivir Mi Vida". With the latter, he was also given two additional awards for Tropical Album of the Year "3.0" and Collaboration of the Year with Tito 'El Bambino' for "Por Qué Les Mientes"..
But it was the announcement for the Excellence Award that brought the entire venue to their feet as soon as singer and good friend Pitbull, made the award presentation. Marc's famous band were already in their designated spots. The huge screen played back Marc Anthony's singing trajectory that was short of a few accomplishments of the singer. Then Marc Anthony set out what he has been destined to do - sing. Everyone sang along from the first note that Marc sang of his first select song of his lengthy song list to the last song for a medley of three songs - "Tú Amor me Hace Bien", "Cambió de Piel" his latest release song from "3.0" and "Vivir mi Vida".
But Marc's finale was euphoric, some just couldn't contain themselves. They ran to try to get closer to the singer they have been waiting to witness the prestigious presentation and award. Nilda and her daughter have followed Marc Anthony for about 20 years. They both have seen him grow in all respects. It was were very emotional for mother and daughter, hugging each other, high fives and shedding tears. Nilda stated, "He is like my son from the very first day we met thanks to my daughter. He always said 'bendicion' when he saw me and I would give him my blessings. We are very proud of him."
The arena was full of lots of love for the most acclaimed salsa singer today. The clapping, chanting for 'otra, otra, otra' (requesting another song) let Marc in awe and teary eyed leading him to his knees to kiss the stage floor.
Marc Anthony has been a true role model and icon in the music industry. He has a golden heart to help others especially children in need with his Maestro Cares Foundation. For this and so many more reasons, Marc Anthony deserves the Excellence Award and many more. As he stated, "Esto sigue" (this continues).
