After the departure of lead singer Josey Scott in late 2011, Saliva had two choices. They could end their 14- year run as a successful billboard- charting band or they could find a new singer and keep on making hits. Thankfully, they chose the latter. In early 2012 Bobby Amaru, (formerly of Burn Season and Amaru) was announced as the new frontman for the band behind such hits as “Always” and “Click Click Boom” and they could not have made a better choice. Amaru, hailing from Jacksonville, Florida is no stranger to this industry. He has been writing, producing, and performing for over 10 years and has proven to be exactly the new blood Saliva needed. It seems as if it has been an effortless transition into this role. According to guitarist Wayne Swinny, Bobby has brought new energy and a different vibe to the band which is definitely prevalent on their new album “In it to Win it” released September 3, 2013.
Saliva has been performing with Bobby for the last year but this past Saturday, Lansing, Michigan got to experience the new Saliva sound as they performed in front of a packed crowd at Uli’s Haus of Rock. Promoter Tim Corser, who has had a long- standing relationship with Saliva and Uli’s put together this show that nearly sold out the day it was announced. People were lined up in order to get their spot early and true to form, the band did not disappoint. Opening the show with their well known single “Ladies and Gentleman”, Bobby took to the stage and proved yet again that this is what he was born to do. His stage presence is magnetizing and he leads this band as if he has been doing it since day one. They played an hour long set mixing several of their previous hits with some new songs such as “She can sure hide crazy” and the title track to the album “In it to Win it” which were instant hits with the crowd.
When their set was finished, the band came out and posed for pictures, signed autographs, and mingled with the eager audience maintaining their reputation for being a class act. The band has five days off and will then embark on their promotional tour for the album and I definitely recommend checking them out. Saliva, once again has definitely proven that they are indeed “In it to Win it”.
