Head for the far northwest corner of Connecticut's Litchfield Hills this weekend February 7-10 to celebrate the annual Jumpfest in Salisbury Connecticut. Ski jumps, chili cook-offs, bourbon tasting and even a snow queen ball are on the roster of family fun events.
On Friday, Feb. 7 Jumpfest begins with the popular Chili Competition that starts at 6:30 p.m. At 7 p.m. target jumping under the lights livens up the night as skiers glide through the cold winter air. At 8 p.m. a crowd favorite takes place, the "human dog sled" event that consists of six person teams racing around a .3 mile course with their homemade sled. The best looking sled and fastest sled take top prizes in this colorful event.
The Junior Jumps are the feature of Saturday's line up of events that begin at 1 p.m. with young people from all over the region participating in this exciting sport. The afternoon also brings an ice craving demonstration and a free bourbon tasting at the Interlaken Inn, located on Rte. 112 sponsored by Hillrock Bourbon.
The annual Snow Ball will take place at 8 p.m. - 12 midnight at the Lakeville Hose Company on 4 Brooke Street and will feature one of the members of the 80's hit group The Blue Oyster Cult that now plays with "The Nice Ones".
The long awaited Eastern U.S. Jumping Championships is the headline event on Sunday. Practice jumps begin at 11 a.m. and the actual Championships begin at 1 p.m.
