Benton, Ark. police say a Saline County man has been arrested for allegedly killing his dog. Arkansas Matters reported on June 26, 2014 that Paul Daughtrey was arrested on animal abuse charges. The arrest is the result of an ongoing police investigation. More charges may be pending.
The incident in question
On May 31, 2014, police received a called from Benton Animal Control to assist the animal control officials in a possible animal abuse case. The suspect was Paul Daughtrey, age 26. He was suspected of beating his dog to death. Benton Police launched an investigation which resulted in Daughtrey’s arrest on aggravated animal cruelty charges.
The alleged beating took place back in January of this year. An attending veterinarian stated that the dog’s cause of death was blunt force trauma and that it appeared the pit bull was beaten to death. It is unclear why it took so long for authorities to start an investigation into the incident or why it was not reported sooner.
Paul Daughtrey, a 26-year-old male, was arrested at 300 S. Second Street, in Benton, Ark, He was processed at the Saline County Detention Facility on June 24, 2014 at 9:30 a.m. The arrest was made by the Benton Police Department. The charge is aggravated animal cruelty. Daughtrey is waiting to see the judge. He may be facing more charges as the investigation continues.
