Tuesday afternoon, Toyota dealers were asked to suspend sales for the 2010 Lexus GX 460 SUV; this new came just hours after Consumer Reports reported a Do Not Buy safety warning on the 2010 Lexus GX 460 SUV. Consumer Reports rarely issues a Do Not Buy warning on a vehicle.

"We are taking the situation with the GX 460 very seriously and are determined to identify and correct the issue Consumer Reports identified," said Mark Templin, Lexus Group Vice-President.

Tuesday, Consumer Reports urged consumers not to buy the 2010 Toyota Lexus GX 460 due to a dangerous rollover risk. Consumer Reports discovered the problem during regular testing, and rarely do they give a Do Not Buy warning on any vehicle.

Toyota said that the Lexus SUV met or exceeded government safety tests. "We're concerned with the results," said Toyota. They will attempt to duplicate the test "to determine if appropriate steps need to taken."

The Lexus GX 460 SUV has been on the market for three months and 5,000 have been sold. The magazine advised consumers to approach exit ramps with caution and to contact Toyota and demand a fix for the problem.

Toyota has recalled several vehicles over the past six months, and the way that they have handled the issues have caused consumers concern.

The problems with Toyota and the recalls over the past few months creates an opportunity for other dealerships. "Every dog has his day," said Jerry Seiner who owns several General Motors dealerships in Salt Lake City. "Maybe they'll take a second look at us instead of Toyota...when Toyota stumbles it's our opportunity."
