September and October offer great deals at many of Chicagoland’s independent garden centers. Since fall is an excellent time to plant (one can plant until the ground freezes), now is a great time to get out and explore the uniqueness of these often hidden gems.

Here is a sampling of what some of the garden centers have to offer yet this month.

Pasquesi, with three locations in the north suburbs is offering all trees and shrubs from 25 to 50 percent off. Shoppers will enjoy the sales on six and ten-inch mums, bulbs and a variety of garden supplies and home goods through Sept. 30.

Lurvey’s Garden Center, in DesPlaines has Arborvitae and Japanese Maples on sale this month, as well as pottery and other items. They also have big savings of 25 to 75 percent off with an orange dot clearance.

At The Planter's Palette in Winfield, all shrubs are $10 off and all trees are $30 off. These special prices will last through September.

Spring Bluff Nursery and Garden Center in Sugar Grove, has all perennials, ball & burlap trees and shrubs for 30 percent off, and select container grown trees and shrubs on sale. Spring Bluff also has a You Pick Farmstand, where customers pick their own fresh produce!

Also, check out Platt Hill Nursery in Bloomingdale or Carpentersville for savings on a great selection of evergreens and shrubs. They also have sales on select perennials and grasses.
