Sale of Gene Simmons' truck raises $450K for children's hospital

Gene Simmons's 1956 Ford F100 sold for more than a song at the recent Barrett-Jackson auction in Scottsdale, AZ. In fact, the custom truck, affectionately known as “Snakebit,” was bought by Canadian businessman Gord Broda for the tune a $450,000, which will now go to the Children’s Hospital Foundation of Sasketchewan, Canada.

Although born in Newfoundland, Simmon’s wife actress/model Shannon Tweed grew up in Saskachewan and made an impassioned statement just prior to the start of the auction that quickly drove the bidding up to more than $350,000.

"My mom had to move with her seven children back to a province called Saskatchewan,. She started working at a hospital; she became head of the hospital. So I was keenly aware there was no children's hospital in our town and it's a shame. We're one of two provinces in Canada that doesn't have one, and we're going to try and make it happen tonight, with your help," Tweed told the crowd.

An additional promise by the Gene stating that he would also “throw in a signed guitar and a lap dance as part of the deal,” helped it climb even higher.

The truck, modified to “resemble a Shelby Mustang,” actually features a 6 speed manual transmission taken from a Shelby GT500, along with a supercharged 5.4 liter 550 hp V8 engine beneath an all-steel hood and front fascia, and sits atop a wheelbase stretched to 5 inches according to the auction house. In addition, the truck’s billet-machined bed treatment is “made to look like wood.”
