Mike Bell has been signed to an offer sheet by the Philadelphia Eagles and the Saints have seven days to match it or let him go. That hasn't stopped them though from already looking for a possible replacement.
Former Oakland Raider running back Justin Fargas was seen on Tuesday night having dinner with Saints' officials. No official visit has been reported as of yet. Witnesses spotted them at Emeril's in the Warehouse District.
Fargas has been in the NFL for seven years and spent all of them with the Raiders. He has accumulated 3,369 yards and 10 touchdowns. Fargas has had visits with the Browns and Eagles so far after being cut by the Raiders.
There are many similarities between Bell and Fargas as in they are not every-down backs, but powerful runners that are very good in short yardage situations. If the Saints do choose to sign Fargas, then it would be their first acquisition of this offseason. The team has already lost Scott Fujita to free agency and also released longtime defensive end Charles Grant.

Only 10 TDs in 7 years? I have seen the guy have some pretty good games.
Why would they prefer Fargas over Bell? Bell has proven to be effective in the offense. He ran extremely well when Pierre was hurt in the beginning of the season.
Can't go wrong with either back. Both are great backs who run with intensity.
I think the 10 TDs are due to the awful team he was playing for. How's a short-yardage back supposed to score points when he can't get into the red zone?
Bell has indeed proven to be effective in a three back running scheme, and so might fargas. One thing is for certain though: if we do get Fargas we can use the term "Run your fargin' as off", which would be fun.
Why let Bell go?? Unless there is something about him that only the insiders know?? We need 4 good backs. How often this season were all 4 backs healthy?? I'm not sure but it seems like there was always at least one dinged up for each game. 500,000.00 is a lot of money to me , but with a 135 million payroll, it's seems insignificant. I'm worried that the Saints may start penny pinching....please let's not go there

Bell may be the better pick as a younger power back, but who's the better blocker? Who's going to pick up the blitz better? Who's better as a receiver? To his credit, Fargas had 17 receptions this year compared to Bell's four. How much of that is due to scheme vs. ability?
Bell is a good back but he offers nothing special, Fargas is no different. In Denver, Bell was the go to guy and fell out of favor quickly and it seems like the Saints would rather keep Reggie Bush, and Pierre Thomas. I would too, even in fanasty football, which I don't play. Looks like the Saints is following in the footsteps of the Steelers and not making the playoff the season after winnng it all.
