Volition's zany Saints Row series has finally reached a conclusion. The concluding entry, Saints Row IV, has long been on the top of Steam's Top Sales list, even before it was released. Boasting satiric comedy, juvenile humor and super powers, Saints Row IV is now available in the Steam Store.
Players who pre-ordered Saints Row IV were given access to the 'Merica weapon, as well as presidential vehicles and costumes. Additionally, those players were able to 'pre-load' the game so that it would be ready to play upon its release without the hassle of downloading. If you did not pre-order Saints Row, you still have time to purchase it. Chances are that Steam's pre-order bonuses will be available as DLC (downloadable content) at a later date.
Saints Row as a series has come a long way. What once used to be a serious story set in a less-than-believable world turned into a ridiculous and over-the-top experience over time. Many players did not like the shift into ridiculousness, and some did. Regardless of your opinion, Saints Row IV was made with fans in mind.
The ridiculous nature of Saints Row is one of the things that separates it from its gang-shooting competitors, so it survived into the fourth installment. However, the story is more in-depth and houses moments that recall characters and actions from Saints Row 1 and 2. After the outrage of Johnny Gat's death in the first 10 minutes of the third Saints Row, he makes a return in the fourth. These are just some qualities that show Saints Row IV was made by a developer who cares about the players.
The season pass for Saints Row IV DLC is readily available on Steam for $9 USD. This seems premature, considering that none of the DLC has been announced. It could prove to be a safer bet to wait and see what type of DLC will be released for Saints Row IV before purchasing the season pass.
Ultimately, Saints Row has made a name for itself among PC gamers. Volition and Steam have been promoting the fourth Saints Row for a long time now and with favorable results. Saints Row IV proves to be a photo-finish to a series that truly was all about the fans. You can find it on Steam here.
