It is a sad day for the Who Dat Nation, the fans of the New Orleans Saints, as a great one has passed away. Known by so many as "Saints Fett," the man behind the mask who was Larry Jehle Jr. passed away, according to a Facebook page on Feb. 18, 2014.
Those that have been to Saints' games in the Superdome, or even watched them on TV, have probably seen Saints Fett. A number of members of the Who Dat Nation have probably met him face-to-face.
Jehle dressed up in a Bob Fett (of "Star Wars" fame) costume that was painted in the colors of the Saints - black and gold.
Saints Fett (Jehle) had been awaiting a heart transplant, and that was the reason for the Facebook page that was asking for prayers for him. A large outpouring of support had come the way of him and his family, but it was announced late on Tuesday that he had lost his battle.
"So now he can feel like Saints Fett everyday. No more pain, sticks, tests or hospital stays. Larry took his last breath at 3:25 today surrounded by close family and friends just as Father Kurt finished giving Larry his last rites. I'm sure when he got to the pearly gates St Peter took one look at him and said "Hurry up & get in here! Buddy D & all these Who Dat's have been driving me crazy all day waiting for you!"
Every single NFL team has a host of fans that everyone always recognizes because they are always there. They stand out, they cheer loudest, and they never miss a game. Saints Fett was one of those for the New Orleans Saints, and his presence shall be missed.
Larry Jehle, Jr. shall be missed. Rest In Peace, Saints Fett.
