Saints Drew Brees wins NFL Offensive Player of the Year

The NFL MVP award may have gone to Aaron Rodgers of the Green Bay Packers, but Drew Brees of the New Orleans Saints didn't walk away empty-handed. The new single-season passing record holder was announced on Saturday as the 2011 Associated Press NFL Offensive Player of the Year.

Brees stat line for 2011 is as follows:

  • 5,476 yards - breaking Dan Marino's record
  • 468 completions - breaking Peyton Manning's record
  • 71.6 completion percentage - breaking his own record set in 2009
  • 300 yard-games: Seven straight games and 13 times in one season - surpassing his own league marks
  • 46 touchdown passes compared to 14 interceptions
  • 110.6 passer rating
  • One rushing touchdown

While Rodgers got 48 of the 50 first-place votes for the MVP award, it was almost the exact opposite for Offensive POY. Brees received 43 of the 50 first-place votes while Rodgers received the other seven.
