The NFL MVP award may have gone to Aaron Rodgers of the Green Bay Packers, but Drew Brees of the New Orleans Saints didn't walk away empty-handed. The new single-season passing record holder was announced on Saturday as the 2011 Associated Press NFL Offensive Player of the Year.
Brees stat line for 2011 is as follows:
- 5,476 yards - breaking Dan Marino's record
- 468 completions - breaking Peyton Manning's record
- 71.6 completion percentage - breaking his own record set in 2009
- 300 yard-games: Seven straight games and 13 times in one season - surpassing his own league marks
- 46 touchdown passes compared to 14 interceptions
- 110.6 passer rating
- One rushing touchdown
While Rodgers got 48 of the 50 first-place votes for the MVP award, it was almost the exact opposite for Offensive POY. Brees received 43 of the 50 first-place votes while Rodgers received the other seven.
