Creature, the opening play of the Brüka Theatre season, is loosely inspired by "The Book of Margery Kempe" written in 1430. The passionate, spooky and witty play, written by Heidi Schreck and directed by Mary Bennett, opens this weekend and will run through Oct. 26 in Reno.
Brüka, founded in 1992, is a not-for-profit theater company that has produced more than 100 shows. Central to Brüka is the commitment to the reinvestigation of contemporary and classic plays and developing new plays within Brüka’s Artistic Collective, which include winners of the Nevada Arts Council and Sierra Arts Foundation artist grants and eight local best actor honors.
Award winning actor Schreck conjures a collision of contemporary and medieval imaginations: a funny new play about faith and its messengers with a bit of fright. Creature will run Wednesday (artist night) through Saturdays with most evening shows at 8 p.m. and Sunday matinees include a conversation with the company. Tickets are available online and by calling (775) 323-3221. Advance individual tickets cost $20 and are discounted to $18 for students, seniors and military. All tickets are $25 at the door. Brüka Theatre season tickets are also available.
