Spring is in the air, and all over the Southland, high school teams will be donning their "pad-less" uniforms for football spring training.
In Playa Del Rey, the "little school that can," the Saint Bernard Vikings, are looking forward to a big year under their new head coach Larry Muno. Muno joined Saint Bernard after two very successful seasons at Saint Monica High School.
While at Saint Monica, Muno was a walk-on coach who didn't have a position with the school. On the side, he serves as a firefighter in the city of Vernon. He said that he expects to stay with the fire department in addition to his duties at Saint Bernard. Aside from coaching duties, Muno will serve as a marketing administrator at Saint Bernard, which is located in Playa del Rey. Ironically, Saint Monica plays most of its home games on Saint Bernard's field.
The Saint Bernard football team has been playing top-ball since the late 1950s, and boasts some of the greatest local athletic facilities in town.
