Houston’s Saint Arnold Brewing is getting up there in age. The brewery just celebrated two decades in business and it ranks as the oldest craft brewery in the state of Texas. It now has a new beer to celebrate its twenty years in the industry and it will be available over the next few weeks as supplies last. Here are the facts:
Beer: Saint Arnold 20th Anniversary Barleywine Ale
Release Date: Monday, June 9, 2014
Availability: 22 oz. bomber bottles and on tap
Saint Arnold wanted to produce something special to celebrate its 20th anniversary and after much consideration and brainstorming, owner Brock Wagner and the other good guys and gals at Saint Arnold came up with a recipe for barleywine. Saint Arnold’s web site describes this beer as follows:
The color is a deep burgundian brown with a tan, creamy head. The nose is spicy with malt and alcohol and an orange citrus hop note. Toffee and caramel flavors combine well with spice from a combination of the hops and the alcohol. The balance is perfect with the malt and hops tingling together in unison from start to finish. There is a slight lingering dry bitter that stays with you but this also complements the sweetness from the all malt grain bill that could easily have become cloying. On repeated tastes, and as the beer warms, a soft dark chocolate note starts to come forward adding to the interest of this beer.
Saint Arnold brews this beer using Maris Otter, two- row pale, Munich, and Chocolate malts; Centennial, Cascade, and Simcoe hops; and Saint Arnold’s own special ale yeast. The beer is brewed using no additives or preservatives and is unpasteurized for the freshest possible flavor. Like the company that produces it, Saint Arnold 20th Anniversary Barleywine is said to get better with age. It can be stored for many years and enjoyed at a later date, whenever a celebratory mood or occasion takes place.
Two decades in business is a remarkable achievement for any company. Saint Arnold Brewing has been thrilling its loyal customers for twenty years and its 20th Anniversary Barleywine Ale is a testament to the hard work, perseverance, and abundant talent that define this Houston- based brewing operation. Grab some of this beer if you get the chance and join in the celebration of Texas’ oldest craft brewery, Saint Arnold Brewing.
