Saint Arnold Brewery, Houston’s largest craft brewing operation, is a proud and frequent supporter of the local community and many of its sponsored events have expanded from small gatherings to all- out, highly attended events often attracting hundreds of individuals. One of these events is scheduled early next week and is likely to surpass last year’s in terms of attendance and enthusiasm. Here is some background information:
Who: Saint Arnold Brewery
What: Valentines for Soldiers
Where: St. Arnold Brewery, 2000 Lyons Ave., Houston, TX
When: Monday, January 21, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Why: To support troops and veterans who sacrifice so much for their country
Valentines for Soldiers is volunteer event now in its fourth year. It is different from your typical fund raiser in one important way: The direct involvement by the volunteers. With other fund raising events, guests often show up, donate some money, eat a little food, and go on their way. But Valentines for Soldiers takes the idea of community involvement to a new level. The guests at this event actually create care packages, stuffing boxes with packaged goods and then add their own, self- created Valentine’s Day card, for a personal touch.
Valentines for Soldiers is mostly about the care packages, but there will also be a bake sale to help raise additional funds for different veterans organizations such as Team Red, White, and Blue and the Wounded Warriors Project. The cost per participant is $10 with five dollars of every ticket going directly to the non- profit organizations. Funds will also be donated by H-Town strEATs and Koagie Hots- two food trucks that plan to sell food at the event.
Last year’s Valentines for Soldiers event was a huge success and there is no reason to believe that this year’s event will not be even larger still. It’s a great event that combines charity, creativity, and community spirit.
