Valentines for Soldiers is volunteer event now in its fourth year. It is different from your typical fund raiser in one important way: The direct involvement by the volunteers. With other fund raising events, guests often show up, donate some money, eat a little food, and go on their way. But Valentines for Soldiers takes the idea of community involvement to a new level. The guests at this event actually create care packages, stuffing boxes with packaged goods and then add their own, self- created Valentine’s Day card, for a personal touch.

Valentines for Soldiers is mostly about the care packages, but there will also be a bake sale to help raise additional funds for different veterans organizations such as Team Red, White, and Blue and the Wounded Warriors Project. The cost per participant is $10 with five dollars of every ticket going directly to the non- profit organizations. Funds will also be donated by H-Town strEATs and Koagie Hots- two food trucks that plan to sell food at the event.

Last year’s Valentines for Soldiers event was a huge success and there is no reason to believe that this year’s event will not be even larger still. It’s a great event that combines charity, creativity, and community spirit.
