Sailor the dog has suffered for too long

San Diego, CA - Sailor is a White German shepherd, though you can hardly determine his breed as a result of his deplorable state of health.

He is certainly a far cry from the handsome, regal dog that he should be.

Sailor is suffering from a severe fungal infection, chronic (untreated) dry eye which has caused partial blindness, anemia and he is emaciated.

Sailor's body is pitiful.

Sailor's spirit is broken.

Not long ago, this sad German shepherd was picked up as a stray and taken in to an animal control facility in San Diego.

While he was there, he suffered.

His multitude of ailments were not addressed - his wounded soul was not comforted.

The only treatment that he received was flea medications which served to cause him further misery.

Had Sailor not been taken in by a rescue - the end of his life would have been at that animal control facility.

Thankfully, one rescue organization was willing to take Sailor in - despite the thousands of dollars of veterinary expenses that they knew would accompany him.

German Shepherd Rescue of Orange County pulled Sailor from the animal control facility and transported him directly to a veterinarian.

The volunteer that pulled Sailor from animal control reported that the suffering dog was crying and moaning in pain when she got there.

Sadly, his misery was painfully evident.

Though Sailor's prognosis is good,  his road to recovery will be long - sadly, it will also be costly.

The German shepherd Rescue of Orange County is suffering like many other rescues. Fewer people are adopting and more people are surrendering...funds to care for dogs like Sailor are practically non-existent.

But when you are a rescuer, you simply must rescue - hoping against hope that the donations will somehow arrive so that lost souls like Sailor can experience comfort and joy while they are alive.

If you would like to help Sailor, please consider making a donation to his rescue organization. You can access their website at this link.

Please share Sailor's story - the more people who learn of his plight - the more likely it is that enough funds will be raised.

Remember, even $5-$10 adds up in a big way if many people choose to help.

On a personal note - I have asked the rescue if Alice, the former junk-yard shepherd, is on their radar. Unfortunately, she was not.

Sadly - due to the high number of dogs who have been taken in, and the huge expenses that have come with them - they probably are not able to assist Alice. However, they may be able to pull her if someone offers to open their home and foster.

If you are willing to foster, please contact the rescue at info@gsroc.org.
