If you spent the first week of March obsessively refreshing the Yppedia page about limited edition ships, wondering if the Ringers would ever release one this month... then you probably already know that the answer is yes. What with that obsessively refreshing thing you were doing, you probably saw the page change on March 7. This announcement is for everyone else.
Yes! There is a limited edition ship this month! And it's a sloop! It's a Valkyrie class sloop!
The Spyglass describes it as "combining the speed and versatility of a sloop with the character of a longship." Don't be confused by that. It's a sloop, OK? It's a sloop after the manner of sloops: 4 cannons, one shot per move, 4 moves per turn, 7 stations, etcetera. It's just that the decor is something out of the Thor movie or that bit in The Long Dark Teatime of the Soul where everyone takes a little trip to Valhalla, that's all. The effigy of Odin, complete with Huginn and Muninn on the one-eyed God's shoulders, is a nice touch.
But in the way of recent limited edition ships, not everything special about this sloop is cosmetic. Remember how the Hunter class sloop came with a bonus sword rack? It's like that. There's a sword rack, a bludgeon trunk, and brawling and drinking games. Because this is supposed to be Valhalla, right? A particularly nice touch: the drinking game interface is actually a mead vat.
On Cerulean, this ship is going for about 50,000 pieces of eight and up. (I've ordered it for about 52K at Cnossos.) On Emerald, just to give you an example, I'm seeing 86K on Admiral with the standard 40-doubloon delivery fee. Expect it to be a tad more expensive on Jade (150K+ on Wensley).
Announced late though it was, it'll still only be around until the end of the month. So go earn you some booty to get it by March 31!
