The Sage of Ink from Realm of the Titans is a caster hero that proves the brush is truly mightier than the sword. One part nuker and one support/team control, Sage of Ink will absolutely destroy teams that walk away from his devastating ultimate – and punish those that stick around as well.
Sage of Ink Boasts an array of abilities that make it easy to control a lane and set the pace and placement of team encounters later. Dealing with Sage of Ink’s abilities will fundamentally change how your opponents play the game, and this shift in play style confers a significant edge, especially against uncoordinated foes.
Sages of Ink’s abilities are important to know, both playing as him and playing against him.
Catharsis: Catharsis deals damage over time, makes the target’s skills cost double, and gives back some of that mana to the Sage of Ink.
Black Dragon Dance: This ability paints a huge dragon that hangs in the air for a moment then propels itself a long distance in a line, dealing significant damage and popping targets into the air for a short stun.
While this ability can be easy to see coming, crafty placement of the dragon in the woods or out of sight can ensure your dragon will land (Sort of like Janna’s tornado from League of Legends). It’s also absolutely great to combine with your ultimate, ensuring that even the smart opponents who stand their ground will be victim of a Black Dragon Dance. This is also an excellent ability for farming creeps.
Dream State: This ability can reduce cooldowns for you or your teammates or increase them for your opponents. While it’s likely you’re probably going to be using this on your own ultimate to have it up all the time to control the flow of combat, it’s certainly useful for popping on teammates before they fire off their ultimate abilities.
Beautiful World: Sage of Ink’s ultimate paints the world with a large brush, anything tagged with the brush will be forced back to the position it gets “painted in” after a few seconds – dealing damage proportional to the distance moved during this time, up to very high % of total health. Enemies who run away or try and chase you down will find themselves taking gobs of damage and “teleporting” to a prior position. Teams (and players) that overpush lanes or are on the run are both extremely vulnerable to Beautiful World.
A Black Dragon Dance will typically be set up on the original position, then a Beautiful World painted – anyone who runs is going to be warped right back into the Black Dragon’s path, taking a double dose of high damage and a likely death. Those who stay are going to be forced to stay in place, allowing your team a definitive advantage.
Sage of Ink is a Realm of the Titans hero full of flavor, and although he’s borderline gimmicky against any team that knows how to handle Beautiful World, it’s still an excellent positioning and force-fight tool against opponents that stand still during the master’s painting projects. New players will be absolutely crushed by Sage of Ink’s ability synergies and wonder what hit them.
Sage of Ink has heavy mana requirements for continued usage of his skills, so picking up items to facilitate that is a solid idea. Creating a Tricolored Jade with cooldown reduction boots is a great way to get your Sage of Ink in there casting and surviving encounters in any Realm of the Titans game.
