Children just love the summer time. You can’t blame them; they can work out their energies in many ways. One of the activities that they enjoy during the warm weather is swimming. They don’t seem to have a care in the world because they are enjoying themselves so much. Swimming, splashing, jumping off the diving board and laughing with their friends and siblings.
Parents are the one who are always looking out for their safety. Providing swimming lessons, having an adult present to watch them while they swim to ensure nothing happens to their little one and being available to jump in after them if something does go wrong. They smear on sunscreen so their skin doesn’t get burned and allow time between meals before giving the okay to go back in the water.
Those are wonderful safety thoughts to keep on top of and keep in place. There is also another tip that parents should be aware of once their child exits the water. It doesn’t matter if it is a public or private pool or a lake or ocean that they swam in.
Once a child is finished swimming the first thing after running towards their parents is getting wrapped in a towel to dry off. The way you wrap a towel around a child is very important. The towel should be wrapped under their arms and never over them. If a towel is wrapped over their arms it increases their risk of trip and fall accidents. It would be easy for them to break a leg falling if they can’t push their arms out to break the fall. They can fall hard and hit their heads causing a concussion, a side fall can break an arm and a frontal fall can cause face lacerations and broken teeth.
Always remember when you wrap a child in a towel to always keep their arms free and outside the towel. Never wrap the towel over their shoulders either since that limits their movements as well. Parents wrap towels around themselves in this manner and should do the same when their child needs to be wrapped up in a towel too.
Swimming is fun, summer safety tips keep it that way!
