While this month is full of summer fun, remember to think safe when it comes to your cosmetics. In your beach bag include sun screen, your favorite book and a bright summer polish for your nails and toes. There are many different brands of nail (lacquers) polishes on the market but buyer beware, not all of them are the safe to use. Some nail polishes contain ingredients that may cause skin irritation or an allergic reaction. According to www.fda.gov, nail hardeners that contain formaldehyde may cause an irritation or allergic reaction to those sensitized to this compound. Signs of a reaction may include redness, a tingling sensation, swollen or numbness of the finger tips.
A trusted nail polish brand is OPI which is retailed in many salons nationwide. OPI products are formaldehyde-free and do not contain ingredients which are harmful to the natural nail plate. You can try a variety of colors to match your skin tone at www.opi.com. Having beautiful, health nails is the best summer accessory!
OPI offers a wide range of great colors for your nails and toes. For a great green try Who the Shrek Are You? If you're looking for a bright yellow try Need Sunglasses? A pop out pink that looks great with your pedicure is And This Little Piggy. Cavallaro & Co located at the mall in Columbia carries the full range of OPI lacquers. You need a better profile picture honey. You could have come a little more correct and represented. Ugh!
Great info!!!
I'm wondering where you got the information that OPI products are formaldehyde-free. I just checked the ingredients for two of the polishes you have in the picture, the Matte and Original polishes, and they both have formaldehyde -- and I'm guessing all do. So they do cause the allergic reaction including numbness of finger tips.
Maybe this column should be called Baltimore Nail Care Misleader or something.

Strange, I had commented a few weeks ago with the fact that, contrary to your “article,” the OPI products are NOT formaldehyde free. However, it looks like my comment is removed since then, instead of correcting the article, which turns your incorrect point into a lie. The problem is that this site is coming up when one googles nail polish and numbness, and it misleads people to think that they won’t have the allergic reaction with the product you’re trying to push, OPI. Anyhow, here it is again – if the author bothers to look at the ingredients in any of the nail polishes in your picture above, you’ll see that formaldehyde is in the list of ingredients.
Gregor, you comments were probably removed because Ms. Oliver is not a true professional and has NO idea what she is talking about. Obvi painting nails is her hobby and not something she has true expertise on. I say don't take any of her columns as experienced suggestions from a true professional but just words from a chick who likes to see color on her nails.
