Trick-or-treating is what we will be doing this evening. The most important part of Halloween is to be safe. Being safe is what makes the holiday very enjoyable. Let's go over some things to make it a fun night.
First, make sure that you cannot step on your costume while you are walking. Make sure that them hem is high enough to be able to safely step up on to curbs or steps heading up to a front porch. Secondly are the shoes. If your costume can allow you to wear walking tennis shoes, that would be your best bet to keep you from having sore and achy feet while you are trick-or-treating through the neighborhood. If your costume requires great shoes to accessorize your costume, try to wear flats or a soft rubber sole.
Next, flashlights are important. make sure that your flashlights have fresh batteries and test them out before you begin walking the streets. It is always most important to trick-or-treat in well-lit neighborhoods, but sometimes a street light may be out. If you have a large group, it is a good idea to have the person leading the group to carry a flashlight and the one in the back of the group to have one, too. This makes it easier to keep track of the group.
Also, a great light accessory for kids are glow sticks. If their costumes can have glow sticks go with it, like a bracelet or a necklace, this would be great. However, if it won't work to wear with the costume, then put one the trick-or-treat bag that your child will be carrying.
Following these tips will help you have a wonderful and safe holiday. Happy Halloween!
