A Marseille man, Farid Ghilas, 24, was sentenced to one year in prison and is banned from owning any animals a French court decided on Monday afternoon - just days after Ghilas posted a YouTube video on Facebook showing him throwing a defenseless kitten as hard as he could against an apartment house reported France's The Local.

The video was a "disgust heard around the world" on Friday, as a five-month-old ginger and white kitten meowing and scared to death, was heartlessly tossed through the air. The kitten, named Oscar, suffered a broken leg and is now recovering.

Ghilas has previous criminal convictions.

In court on Monday, Ghilas apologized to the court and called himself an idiot for the cruel act.

According to expatica.com, the prosecutor, Emmanuel Merlin, stated:

"His particularly perverse and sadistic act disgusted the entire planet."

And yes, Mr. Merlin we all agree. Many humane organizations reported the cruel act. The YouTube video has since been removed.
