Anyone from St. Louis will tell you that the best place to meet at Busch Stadium is by the Stan Musial statue. Fans young and old stop at the statue to admire the greatest St. Louis Cardinal ever. A cloud of sorrow is over St. Louis and the world of baseball tonight as news breaks that Musial has died at the age of 92.
Musial played 22 seasons for the Cardinals. His nickname was "Stan the man." He was one of the best hitters of all time. He made his Major League Baseball debut in 1941.
Here is the quote on his statue from former baseball commissioner Ford Frick: "Here stands baseball's perfect warrior. Here stands baseball's perfect knight."
Stan the man received the highest honor awarded to civilians on Februrary 12, 2011. President Obama presented him with the 2010 Medal of Freedom.
The Clinton Presidential Center in Little Rock, AR paid tribute to the St. Louis Cardinals recently with the "Play Ball" exhibit. Musial contributions were prominently displayed for all to see.
