Throughout this workshop, participants will explore the many permutations of spirituality, trauma, and spiritual trauma. The presentation will look at psychological (and some spiritual) figures throughout history who used faith for hurt or for healing. Attendees will explore what spiritual trauma looks like in today’s culture and religious context, and will begin to see how treatment for this kind of trauma requires a unique set of lenses, and a variety of creative treatment approaches. The workshop presenter will discuss this expanding new frontier of trauma and its treatment, touching on such concepts as logotherapy, moral injury, and spiritual abuse, among others. Participants will explore the nature of family abuse and the cycle of violence as it relates to this specific kind of traumatic experience.
Teresa B Pasquale, LCSW, E-RYT 200 is a trauma therapist, movement and contemplative practice facilitator, and a purveyor of hope and healing. She believes strongly that we all have the power to heal–mind, body, and spirit. She is author of Mending Broken: A Personal Journey Through the Stages of Trauma & Recovery, an educational memoir. Teresa has a book forthcoming through Chalice Press in 2015 on Sacred Wounds: Religious Hurt & Spiritual Injury [working title]. She is founder of The Sacred Core Institute, in private practice in Boca Raton, co-hosts a blog radio show called The Liminal Space Cafe, and speaks locally and nationally on issues of trauma, healing, integrative therapies, spirituality, contemplative practice, and compassionate social justice.
