Leslie Blackburn of the Mystery School of the Temple Arts, a school which embraces Sacred Sexuality, has undertaken a challenging path and is doing great work within the Metro Detroit community, the only school of it's kind in the Midwest, located in the Detroit/Ann Arbor area of Michigan. She is making accessible the opportunities to share and learn about intimate matters that many consider taboo, or opposed to public conversation.
Indeed, sexual health and promotion of healthy sense of self as a sexual being is a large part of an overall well balanced individual. Sexuality is a sacred thing for many pagans, and non pagans, alike. Understanding the self, exploration of how that self enters union with others, and how that translates to the spiritual level is a heady concept.
To render education and service in this, the most of realms of physicality and emotional wellness is a challenging calling. Several in the community have been attempting to address the need for this work for many years now, particularly the challenges of healthy polyamory.
Many relationships have been saved by the acknowledgement of this life choice as being an option, not an execution, for a loving bond. "Poly, at its core, is fundamentally about love," states Gaylen Moore, of the Polyamory Society. And Love is the Law......nod to the knowing.
She undertook training as a Priestess of the Ancient Temple Arts, including sacred sexual healing and emotional release, and received Sacred Sexual Shamanic Practitioners Training (Daka/Dakini Intensive) Certificate from the Sedona Temple & International School of Temple Arts. Since then, she has pursued the path of enlightenment and healing in this blissful way. Her "teachings bloom from a blend of experience and training in Tantra, Sacred Sexuality, Taoism, Yoga, Shamanism, Meditation, QiGong, Reiki, Visual Arts, Music, Psycho-Physical Human Capacities, Quantum Physics and Vibrational Dynamics" per her introduction bio at http://www.onespaceconnected.com/MysterySchooloftheTempleArts/about.htm.
The weekend of October 5th, and 6th, she will be opening the private temple space, to those who seek this teaching, at a private location in Dearborn, Michigan for Sacred Sexuality Weekend Workshops. This will be an open and safe space for the curious and the experienced to explore and learn together. This work goes beyond the physical, dealing with the emotional body as well.
There will be a series of workshops, including "One Love: Sacred Sexual Healing Workshop", "Learning to Let Go!" Self-Exploration Playshop for Women”, "Female Orgasm & Female Ejaculation - Awareness and Empowerment!" Presentation/Discussion”, and "Polyamory & Alternative Relationships" Presentation/Discussion. All are designed to free the attendees from preconceived traps and inhibitions of thought and conditioning that have disconnected them from their full selves.
The workshops are guided by an experienced Dakini. A Dakini is a tantric practitioner, or as sexual healer and guide, for the seeker. This term has its roots in Buddhism, and the belief in the belief of such feminine energies manifesting in the personage of a human woman. It is a career of compassion and passion. It is this passion that led to the founding of the Temple and School, which has been helped countless souls to reach that place of acceptance and freedom that people need to just ....be.
In a definition given in the book by Michael Haas, “Dakini Power: Twelve Extraordinary Women Shaping the Transmission of Tibetan Buddhism in the West” http://www.dakinipower.com/home/
“A female embodiment of enlightenment is called a dakini in the ancient Indian language of Sanskrit. But what exactly is a dakini? Dakinis are elusive and playful by nature; trying to nail them down with a neat definition means missing them, since defying narrow intellectual concepts is at the core of their wise game”
Throughout the Detroit area, there is a strong stigma attached to exploration of the sexual side of adulthood in public. This is not natural. Sexuality is a part of nature, and nature is part of the human experience. The understanding of the essence of deity in nature and the order of that design is part of the pagan and neopagan experience. The Wheel http://www.thewhitegoddess.co.uk/the_wheel_of_the_year/index.asp does not turn without the Lady and the Lord’s Union and its fruits.
In the Aradia's Charge http://www.angelfire.com/stars3/ashtah/aradia.html , she tells us to be free in our rites. This is a way to embrace that freedom. For if you are a slave to your own obstacles in this most intimate of places, how can you truly worship with your whole self? Just something to think about in passing.
