You are what you eat, or so the saying goes. What you put in your body, so you become. We have all heard this, and we all see to some degree that we indeed are what we eat. We know that if we fill our bodies with fat, sugar, cholesterol, etc. we will become overweight and unhealthy. Alternatively, fill your body with healthy, nourishing, nutrient rich food and you will be healthy, radiant, full of life and energy. It just makes sense that what goes in is reflected on the outside.
What about what goes on our bodies? From cosmetics and lotions to salves and ointments, what goes on the body thus goes in the body. Everything that touches our skin is quickly and readily absorbed into our bodies. How many of us consider this when purchasing our cosmetics and medicines? Jen Turner does, and thus she created Sacred Herb Creations, a local resource for all natural, vegan herbal remedies and bath and body care products.

Jen hand makes each of her products with herbs that have been picked from her garden, right here in Louisville, KY. With a desire to know exactly what was in the products she was using she began making natural, vegan products for fun and sharing them with her friends and family. She was soon encouraged to begin selling her products, and did so at local stores and events, as well as on her website. Thus, in early 2008 Sacred Herb Creations was born.
Sacred Herb Creations has several customers who purchase their products simply because they are vegan and all natural (salves are made traditionally with beeswax, but Sacred Herb Creations offers a vegan option on all of their salves, made with candellia wax). Jen enjoys meeting her customers out in the community and is encouraged that the market is growing for a more natural approach to health and beauty. She hears from customers that are excited and passionate about Sacred Herb Creations because they are local, natural, and vegan. One customer, Shelli Carpenter, exclaims that she loves Sacred Herb Creations lip balms because they are “soft, soothing, and vegan”. Vegan lip balms aren't always easy to come by. Carpenter also keeps the Natural Lotion for Hand and Body with her at all times, “it moves from purse, to bag, to car, to bathroom sink”, she especially loves the Soothing Sandalwood scent, but admits that all are wonderful.

When asked what she would want her customers to know about Sacred Herb Creations Jen said, “I am grateful. I really love studying herbal medicine. All is right in my world when I am harvesting herbs from my garden and turning them into medicines. I feel so blessed to have the opportunity to share my love for herbs and my passion with the rest of the world”. Jen is currently enrolling in nursing school because she feels it will make her an even stronger herbalist and increase her knowledge of how the human body works.
Sacred Herb Creations products range from powders, soaps and lotions to oils, salves, scrubs and lip balms. While there is much love put into each and every product, Jen especially loves making her herbal remedies. “I have and opportunity to work closer with the plants when making herbal remedies. There's something magical when I can use the herbs I've grown and turn them into medicines”. Some of Sacred Herb Creations most popular products are the poison ivy spray, bug repellant, salves and tinctures. Jen even gets her young nieces involved in the process, and some of the products have been named after them.
The love that Jen puts into each of Sacred Herb Creations products is evident to customers. Shelli Carpenter says of Sacred Herb Creations, “I feel that it is Jen Turner's nurturing, healing energy that makes these products so wonderful. She is a spiritual being with an awareness and intuitiveness that gently seeps into every bottle, jar, tube, and bar of soap.”
