Sacramento drop a road game to the Bay Area Rosal 9-5 Saturday night. The match was not only for League play but it was for a spot in the quarterfinals of the US Open Cup of Arena Soccer. The winner of the match would face San Diego or Las Vegas in the next round. Sacramento was looking for their third win in a row and Rosal was looking for a win after they were walloped by the Las Vegas Legends 13-3.
Rosal opened the game by quickly scoring four goals easily dominating the Surge in the first period. In the second, Patricio Tenorio scored the Surge's first goal of the game but Rosal struck back with a score by Stefan Clemens. In the third period, Sacramento scored twice (Jorge Fernandez & Ernesto Carranza) alas Rosal scored again to make it a 6-3 game. Rosal extended their lead by outscoring the Surge 3-2 in the final period securing the victory.
With the win Bay Area Rosal advance to the quarterfinals of the tournament. Sacramento heads home to play host to Rosal on January 4th.
