Sacramento won their first home game of the 2013-2014 by defeating Rosal 11-8. The fans packed the Estadio Azteca Soccer Arena to witness the victory. Andrew Kelley, the Surge's former goalie also made a return to the city to face his old team. Sacramento was looking to build upon their last home game when they came from behind to defeat the Yamhill Crew with a five goal fourth period. Will history repeat itself?
In the first period Bay Area held on to a 4-3 lead thanks to Rosal's lead scorer Emrah Klimenta who scored two goals in an action packed quarter. The second period was an even affair as both teams scored three goals a piece giving Rosal a 7-6 advantage. Sacramento started its comeback in the third period when they shut out the Rosal and Jason Martin scored his second goal of the game making it a tied game at 7-7. The fourth period was all Surge as they outscored the Rosal 4-1 to secure the win.
The highlights of the game were by Jason Martin, Chris Sandoval and Edson Sanchez who scored two goals a piece for Sacramento and Rosal's Emrah Klimentra and Jose Martinez who scored two goals each as well. The Surge made twenty shot-on-goals in the game and put pressure on the Rosal all night long. The aggressive field play along with Sacramento's goalie Emmanuel Lopez's thirteen saves were key factors in the victory. Neither team took advantage of their power play opportunities especially Rosal who had five compared to the Surge's two.
Sacramento Surge's next home game will be this Saturday against the Turlock Express.
