Cal Expo's Board of Directors vote to unanimously to approve agreement to for multi-use sports field facility today. The Sacramento Republic F.C. released this statement today: “Today’s vote by the Cal Expo Board of Directors approving the creation of a multi-use sports facility on its grounds, not only enables Sacramento Republic F.C. to host one of the largest soccer pitches in the country, but also provides this region as a whole with the opportunity to enjoy an additional civic amenity,” said Sacramento Republic F.C. President Warren Smith. “This private-public collaboration among Cal Expo, Ovations and Sacramento Republic F.C. provides a means to generate incremental revenue for Cal Expo, more jobs through Ovations and a home pitch for our indomitable city and club."
Sacramento Republic F.C.'s home opener will be held at Hughes Stadium located on the campus of Sacramento City College on April 26. The facility will be a temporary 8,000 seat soccer arena and it should be completed within a few months. Any delays in the construction will mean that the team will continue to play their home games at Hughes Stadium until the soccer arena is completed. The multi-use sports facility will be constructed with private funding and other sporting events such as youth soccer, rugby and lacrosse may also be featured as well. The pitch (soccer field) will be made of natural grass and the arena will have ample parking, concessions and bathroom facilities.
The team hopes to play in a 25,000 seat soccer only stadium in downtown Sacramento within a few years. For more information about the Sacramento Republic F.C. and how to buy tickets please visit http://www.sacrepublicfc.com
