Sacramento groups offer fun, fitness, and friendship

If you are looking to shake up your fitness routine or get started on a healthier lifestyle for the coming year, joining one of the many Sacramento-area fitness groups is a great way to meet new people and get active.  Whether you are looking to enjoy the brisk Sacramento weather with an outdoor sport or burn calories inside a dance studio, lose weight and try something new, or just get moving, there is a group for everyone.  Here is just a sample of some the groups throughout the region with events designed to keep you active and having fun.

Fired Up Fitness is “all about living a healthy lifestyle and having INSANE FUN at the same time.”  The group offers a variety of activities to help you stay fit.  Upcoming events include an orienteering adventure, tennis lessons for beginners, and participating in the California International Marathon.

Walking is a great form of exercise and several Sacramento-area groups offer ways to get fit through walking.  Sacramento Health Walkers is intended to provide motivation to get up and get some exercise.  The group asks for a $5 annual donation to cover the cost of the meetups.  Sacramento Area Pole Walkers is a group dedicated to walking with specially designed poles.  The group welcomes all fitness levels and asks for a $5 annual donation.

WAV Riders - Sacramento Women’s Cycling Group welcomes all levels of women riders to explore new places, have fun, and be active.  Upcoming events include a beginner hill ride starting at the Nimbus Fish Hatchery on December 3 and a 20-mile morning ride through Rocklin and Lincoln on December 14.

If you are a mom, you know how hard it can be to fit in exercise.  Working or stay-at-home moms looking to meet other moms/caregivers and get in shape with their kids can join the Elk Grove Mom-ME Fit Group.  The group is supported by the First 5 Sacramento Commission and offers several weekly workout activities, family nights out, and weekend events.  The group is free to join.

Are you a woman 55 or older and interested in shedding some pounds, keeping your body moving, or just getting out of the house?  Check out Kaia F.I.T. Sacramento, an active movement workout group offering functional exercise classes for women of all fitness levels.  Each weekly workout is different – ranging from low impact yoga and resistance training to kick boxing and circuit training – and the goal is to help you reach your goals using safe, non-strenuous movement.

If you are looking for more of a challenge, consider joining one of the several boot camps throughout the Sacramento area.  FitBody BootCamp, Xtreme-PT Fitness Boot Camp,  and the Granite Bay and Roseville Boot Camp all offer high energy cardiovascular and strength training workouts for various fitness levels.

Finally, if you are looking for something different, why not give dance a try?  Zumba is one of the hottest fitness trends right now and the ReinventYou.org Zumba club meets weekly for Zumba classes in Elk Grove, Galt, and Fair Oaks.  Nia-Dance Fusion offers classes throughout Sacramento in Nia, a sensory-based movement fusing martial arts, dance and yoga.  Or you can tango your way to better health with the Sacramento Argentine Tango group.  Beginners are welcome and a partner is not needed to attend.  The group offers a variety of classes and private lessons are available.
