On Wednesday May 8, MLS reported that Sacha Kljestan may be on his way back to the league. Kljestan is currently a midfielder for Anderlecht, a club in Belgium's first division, and it is this season's current champion. Of course, this rumor should be taken lightly, because any good USMNT player in a European league, is always rumored to have his grand return. However, with Clint Dempsey and Michael Bradley returning recently, then maybe a return for Kljestan may not be too far off.
The report states Kljestan wants to return to Los Angeles Galaxy specifically. This may be an issue if he is looking for Designated Player (DP) money, because LA Galaxy currently has three DPs and would have to release one. Landon Donovan, Robbie Keane and Omar Gaonzalez are LA Galaxy's DPs, and all three players are crucial to the club's performance. Also, another bump in the plan would be that per MLS rules Kljestan will be subject to allocation order and Toronto FC will have first dibs. Of course, LA Galaxy could work something out if it truly wants him.
Seeing how Kljestan is a Huntington Beach native, a city not too far out from Los Angeles, it makes sense for him to want to return to Los Angeles. This makes LA Galaxy the prime choice, because it is currently the better LA club. Although, it would be great for him to return to his former club Chivas USA, but it may be more work seeing how it is going to transfer ownership at the end of the season, and it too has three DPs already.
Regardless of which club he ends up on, if Kljestan returns to MLS, he will be a great addition to the league. The more quality American players the league has, the better it will be.
