Sacha Baron Cohen is in early talks to join Through the Looking Glass, the sequel to Tim Burton’s 2010 Alice in Wonderland.

The exclusive news being reported by Variety says that Johnny Depp and Mia Wasikowska will return for the sequel as the Mad Hatter and Alice respectively, and that The Muppets director James Bobin is all set to direct the film.

This will mark Baron Cohen and Depp’s second collaboration. They stared in Warner Brothers Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (2007) also directed by Burton.

The plot for Through the Looking Glass is being kept underwraps, however it is said that Baron Cohen may play the lead villain, Time.

Famously known for his eccentric alter-egos Ali G and Borat, Baron Cohen has previously starred in dramatic roles and musicals such as Martin Scorsese’s Hugo (2011), and most recently in Les Miserables (2012) as Monsieur Thenardier.

Baron Cohen was also in talks to play musical icon Freddie Mercury in the singers biopic, however he dropped out of the project due to creative differences.

Through the Looking Glass has a release date of May 27, 2016.
