Sabres recall Brian Flynn from Rochester; place Jordan Leopold on IR (Photos)

On Friday, March 1, Buffalo Sabres General Manager Darcy Regier announced that the team had recalled forward Brian Flynn from their AHL affiliate, the Rochester Americans.

To make room on the roster, defenseman Jordan Leopold has been placed on injured reserve after missing the past five games with an upper-body injury. Leopold has one goal and three assists in 16 games this season, with a minus-7 rating.

Brian Flynn will join the Sabres for his first stint at the NHL level after signing a two year entry-level contract with the team on March 29, 2012.

Flynn, 24, spent four years at the University of Maine from 2008 to 2012, where he compiled 69 goals and 87 assists for 156 points in 153 games. Flynn then joined the AHL’s Rochester Americans for five games at the end of the 2011-2012 season, contributing one assist in his debut.

Flynn has played 45 games for the Americans so far this season, scoring 16 goals and adding 16 assists for 32 points. With those totals, Flynn is tied for the team lead in goals, and he is ranked 10th in goals and points amongst AHL rookies.
