The Buffalo Sabres play the second game of a five-game road trip on Thursday, March 20th when they head to Edmonton, Alberta, Canada to play the Oilers; game time is 9:30 p.m. ET.
The northern-most team in the National Hockey League, the Oilers play their home games at Rexall Place, located at 7424 118 Ave. in Edmonton. Opened in 1974, the arena – which was previously known as Northlands Coliseum, the Edmonton Coliseum and Skyreach Centre – has been home to the Oilers since their World Hockey Association (WHA) days. Seating over 16,000 spectators for hockey, the arena is also home to the Edmonton Oil Kings of the Western Hockey League and the Edmonton Rush of the National Lacrosse League.
The arena has hosted a number of hockey events in addition to NHL games. It hosted the 1981 and 1984 Canada Cup tournaments, as well as the 1995 World Junior Hockey Championships. In 2012, Rexall Place hosted the World Junior Championships in conjunction with Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary.
Tickets are still available for the Sabres/Oilers match-up through www.ticketmaster.ca; ticket prices range from $59.75 to $263.75 (plus taxes and fees – Canadian funds).
