Thanks to realignment, the Detroit Red Wings are now in the Atlantic Division with the Buffalo Sabres, and the Sabres will open their 2013-14 NHL regular season against the Red Wings on Wednesday, October 2nd, starting at 8 p.m. at the Joe Louis Arena. The Sabres return to “the Joe” on Friday, April 4th (7:30 p.m. start).
The Joe Louis Arena is located at 19 Steve Yzerman Dr. in Detroit, Michigan. Opened in December 1979, the Arena seats over 20,000 spectators for hockey. The historic arena will be replaced in the near future, as the City of Detroit’s Downtown Development Authority has announced that a new complex with be built, seating approximately 18,000 spectators, at an estimated cost of $650 million.
Restaurants in the vicinity of Joe Louis Arena include the nearby Hockeytown Café, located at 2301 Woodward Ave. in Detroit next to the Fox Theatre, and the Da Edoardo Foxtown Grille, located at 2203 Woodward Ave.
Tickets are available for the upcoming Sabres/Red Wings match-up at the Joe Louis Arena Box Office or through www.ticketmaster.com; tickets range in price from $9 to $205 (plus taxes and fees).
