Say what you will about large breweries, we have one here in Louisiana that still has a heart. Abita Beer has established a charitable fund to help "with the rescue and restoration of the environment, industry and individuals fighting to survive this disastrous oil spill". The fund is called Save our Shore or "SOS-A Charitable Fund", and 100% of the money the fund raises will go toward the charity.
Abita Beer has partnered with the Louisiana Seafood Promotion & Marketing Board (LSPMB),
which will advise where the money will do the most good for Louisiana.
Since it's Abita Beer establishing the fund, the main source of revenue will come from a beer made by Abita called SOS – A Charitable Pilsner. The beer is "This unfiltered Weizen Pils is made with Pilsner and Wheat malts. It is hopped and dry hopped with Sterling and German Perle hops. It has a brilliant gold color, a sweet malt flavor, and a pleasant bitterness and aroma". 75 cents from every beer sold will be dotated to the fund. I'm sure the rest go to cover costs of producing and distributing the beer.
Along with the beer you will be able to show your support by purchasing hats, tee shirts, lapel pins, decals and car magnets and 100% of these proceeds will go to the SOS fund.
This is truly a "message in a bottle...a distress signal for the troubled waters of our Gulf Coast". If you have felt helpless and want to help fight the consequences of this monumental disaster, please support Abita Beer and the "SOS Charitable Fund".
