S.I.G.H.T. Paranormal was founded in 2012 by Tom Masengale, Kyle Masengale, and Chris Thrasher. Their purpose for starting this group was to branch out and help people outside of the Indianapolis area. They were all apart of another group that was just focused on helping people in the metro area. They kept getting requests for help outside of their area that would go unanswered.
S.I.G.H.T. Paranormal consists of 7 investigators with only 5 of them currently active. There are also 3-4 people who are not officially on the team, but have investigation experience and help out from time to time. They also help out if there is a rush case and some of the core members can't make it. They try to take at least 3 investigators to every investigation. Each member lives in the Indianapolis area. They will travel 4-5 hours for an investigation if needed. This means they cover most of Ohio, Illinois, Kentucky, and Indiana. Parts of Tennessee and Michigan can be covered as well.
S.I.G.H.T. does accept new members. They ask all of the new members to go on a public investigation, like Gas Light Inn or Whispers Estate, before allowing them to go on any private home investigations. Their biggest requirement is that you must be able to travel.
All paranormal groups I have talked with and interviewed have a set of rules or guidelines that they follow when on an investigation. S.I.G.H.T.'s rules state that they must have at least 2 investigators together, no solo investigating. This is for safety reasons. While on site they do what they can to disprove claims of activity. They approach a case with a "prove it" kind of attitude, this means they go to a location and the location has to show them there is something paranormal going on. This helps them keep an open mind for non-paranormal reasons for things going on. When investigating, if they do start to get some potential paranormal activity, one of the biggest rules they have is no provoking. They do taunt a little bit. When you provoke entities, that is when bad things start to happen. In all of their investigations there has been only one time they felt that provoking was needed. They as a team decided to break their rule. Deciding to provoke on their own without talking to the rest of the team on site is one of the fastest ways to get thrown off the team.
Protocols for investigations will depend on the case. Their protocols are different for local and out of state cases. For any case out of state they will usually have 2 phone interviews. They will try and do as much research on the property as they can before they go. When they arrive they will do an interview with the client before any investigating begins. For local cases there is one phone interview, then meet with the client in person. They will then do the necessary research of the property before arriving for the investigation. They will also do a video interview with the client.
S.I.G.H.T. Paranormal has done about 7 investigations, but the majority of the team has worked together on about 15 investigations. All groups have and use equipment. S.I.G.H.T. uses the standard investigating gear. They have K-II meters, thermometers, IR cameras, and digital voice recorders. They have 2 different types of ghost boxes. They most out of the ordinary thing they have done is switch to full spectrum camcorders for their handheld cameras instead of just IR camcorders. All of their IR cameras are used as static cameras.
Places S.I.G.H.T. Paranormal has investigated that has some pretty extensive paranormal history would be, the Gas Light Inn, Whispers Estate, and Stepp Cemetery. Some of the members will be going to Waverly Hills in March.
