If you loved Marvel's The Avengers, chances are you're gonna love ABC's new TV series, Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
The series is the brainchild of Avengers Director/Writer Joss Whedon, who's producing the new series, promises a lot of action and a lot of character development. "ABC wanted to make sure that we had recurring stories and not episodes that ended with one episode," Whedon told reporters.
ABC promises that there will be a lot of special effects but that they won't take center stage over character development. That will be the real drive of the show. However there's one character in the show that will have fans guessing from the get go, because he's dead— at least the character died in Marvel's The Avengers. I'm talking, of course, about Agent Phil Coulson.
Coulson gained a fan following as the all-business but affable agent, appearing in all of Marvels big budget Avengers related movies, starting with Iron Man. He's appeared in Iron Man II, Captain America, Thor, Iron Man III and of course the Avengers, where his character was killed by Thor's evil brother Loki.
So how is it Coulson is back on the job in Marvel's Agent's of S.H.I.E.L.D, well series creator Whedon isn't saying just how, but revealed that there is an air of mystery about Coulson's return in the pilot and will be a cloud of mystery that lingers throughout the first season.
As for the pilot, it seems that Agent Coulson is tracking a mysterious group called The Rising Tide. Deemed a high priority threat, Coulson assembles the best agents S.H.I.E.L.D. has to offer to take flush out the members of Tide and take them out.
Rumors are that Samuel L. Jackson may make some cameo appearances, but that's not been officially confirmed.
Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. premieres Tuesday, Sept. 24th at 8:00 p.m. on ABC.
