Capt. Michael Haley, 43, officially known as the "First Gentleman of South Carolina" or alternately, the husband of South Carolina’s Governor Nikki Haley, is safely home from an 11-month tour in Afghanistan.
Haley has been a member of the South Carolina National Guard since 2006 and the tour in Afghanistan was his first overseas. He was home on mid-deployment leave in May.
Haley’s unit the Arigbusiness Development Team 3-49 spent the majority of their deployment assisting Afghan farmers with better ways to grow and develop sustainable crops.
Michael Haley posted this on his Facebook page today:
It has been a great tour, but long 11 months in Afghanistan. I am very much looking forward to coming home to my family and the great state of South Carolina! I digress and reflect on the discerning words of Forest Gump who said "I think I'll go home now."
Married since 1996, Capt. Haley and the governor have two children. He lists Hilton Head Island, S.C. as his home-of-record, but until the governor’s term is over, the family resides in Columbia. Gov. Haley lists her home as Bamberg.
