Ryan Spooner called up to the Boston Bruins

The Boston Bruins have called up Ryan Spooner from the AHL Providence Bruins on Feb. 4. He will join the team on Feb. 5 and travel with them to Montreal to face the Montreal Canadiens the next day.

Spooner has never played on any NHL ice before in his career to date. Drafted by the Bruins in the second round of the 2010 draft, he played in the OHL for three seasons from 2008-09 to 2010-11. In all three of his junior years, he always scored more than 50 points.

After a brief look in the AHL in 2011-12, he went back down to junior for some more conditioning with two different teams, again scoring more than 50 points between the two squads.

This year, he leads the Providence Bruins in scoring with 30 points (nine goals and 21 assists).

Spooner may have been called up to sub for Brad Marchand, who has not yet been definitely confirmed to play on Feb. 6. Daniel Paille is in the same situation.

The team has canceled their Feb. 5 practice at Ristuccia Memorial Arena and will instead travel to Montreal, then practice at the Bell Center.
