Ryan Seacrest preps for 'New Year's Rockin' Eve,' Times Square ball drop

Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest” airs tonight, Dec. 31, on ABC and host Ryan Seacrest is busy behind the scenes of the enormous holiday production. About two hours ago (Dec. 31), he tweeted a photo of this year’s Times Square ball that will drop in front of at least one million people live in New York City and a global television viewing audience of about one billion people tonight.

Seacrest followed up his aforementioned Times Square ball tweet with a second photo tweet just moments ago (Dec. 31) saying, “If u look reeeally close, there are hearts in the crystals of the Times Square Ball http://instagr.am/p/T6C5LAlWTK/.”

How cool is that?

Late last night, Dec. 30, Seacrest posted a behind-the-scenes video on YouTube, where throngs are already gathered in Times Square in anticipation of tonight’s big event.

This year’s celebration will mark the first year that Ryan Seacrest will host “New Year’s Rockin’ Eve” without the legendary Master of Ceremonies, Dick Clark, who passed away in April due to a heart attack. Seacrest mentioned his hope to do Dick justice in an interview with Jimmy Kimmel last month.

The Times Square ball will be lowered 77 feet on a flagpole at 11:59 p.m. EST, and this year, the ball bears a crystal triangle with Dick Clark’s name on it, to honor the late, great, television mogul.

Tonight’s New Year’s Eve Times Square performances include some of the biggest chart-busting stars in the music industry like Country/Pop Diva Taylor Swift, Prince of Pop Justin Bieber, sensational newcomers Carly Rae Jepsen and Greyson Chance, and Jason Aldean, to name a few.

Justin Bieber has been enjoying a holiday break after working on his “Believe” acoustic album which will be released on Jan. 29. Bieber tweeted his fans a New Year’s wish and reminded them to watch his NYRE performance tonight saying, “Tomorrow im on TV with @ryanseacrest on ROCKIN New years eve performing 3 songs. Make sure to watch and HAPPY NEW YEAR.”

Taylor Swift previously performed on NYRE in 2008 and appears this year just prior to kicking off her world tour for her newly released chart-topping album “Red.” Swift’s “Red” tour begins in March and she is also nominated for a Record of the Year Grammy this year for her number one single, “We are Never Ever Getting Back Together.”

“Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest” coverage begins with a two-hour tribute to Dick Clark tonight, Dec. 31, on WJRT ABC12 in the Flint area at 8 p.m. EST.
