Flint area television viewers and ‘American Idol’ enthusiasts have repeatedly told me they love the new season so far, and they love the new judges—especially Steven Tyler. A hairstylist at a salon in Flint told me yesterday that the employees and clients are all constantly talking about the new show. She said, ‘People come in and get the hair done and we all talk about ‘American Idol’. Everyone says they love it, and all of their friends love it, and everyone loves Steven Tyler. He's such a character.' ‘American Idol’ host Ryan Seacrest stopped by ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live’ on Friday to discuss the show’s new season and Steven Tyler’s unique flair.
They showed a clip of Tyler before Seacrest came out. He told Kimmel, ‘I didn’t realize Steven Tyler was so provocative until I saw that clip. It goes right over our heads.’ Kimmel said he wondered if the producers of the show thought that Tyler looked a little bit too much like a pervert and maybe they should reel this in a little bit. Seacrest said, ‘No. I think they’re saying he looks like that. Let’s make it a 2 hour episode.’
Kimmel agreed that was another take – to go with it. He said, ‘I hope they go with it. I think it’s gonna be great when it’s live. Seacrest said, ‘I’m like licking my chops for the live shows. The judges, with this new group, everybody’s talked about what characters are they gonna be, what personalities are they gonna be. They are who they are. I mean, Steven is that guy. He’s from Aerosmith. He’s a rock star. He loves chicks. You watch the clips of his wardrobe and I didn’t realize that anybody could make stripes, polka dots and paisleys co-exist together. His fashion is much more feminine than mine –finally.’
Seacrest confirmed he and Randy Jackson got a lot of calls from pop stars, looking to fill the judges’ slots. He wouldn’t disclose any names. He said he has heard from Simon Cowell recently, but he did not comment on the new judges or show. He said Cowell is a dear friend, and he will be the first one to send him a fax of his new show’s ratings when it premieres. Kimmel asked if the shows could co-exist, are they different enough? Seacrest said, ‘Yes. Yep, they are. I think so.’
