Ryan Rebar, Hunter Smith and Kaleb Smith lead Foxcroft to victory over Dexter

Dover-Foxcroft, ME-- The Foxcroft Ponies boys basketball team went on a 14-0 run in the second quarter and cruised to a 57-39 victory over the Dexter Tigers on Friday evening.

"This is a game we felt like we really needed to win,"Foxcroft coach Dave Carey said. "I was hoping we would come out with energy and I think we did tonight."

Ryan Rebar led the Ponies with 17 points, five steals, two rebounds, two assists and one block.

"We wanted to make sure we came out with energy,"Rebar said. "We did that tonight."

Freshman Hunter Smith came off the bench and filled up the stat sheet for the Ponies. Smith recorded 13 points, eight rebounds, three assists and two steals in 22 minutes.

Kaleb Smith scored 13 points for the Ponies. Smith went 3-3 from three point range including hitting two in the first quarter.

The Ponies have played close games with some of the best in class B this season. They were ahead by 13 against top seeded Presque Isle. They played even with MDI. They played well in both games but could not finish it off because of poor shooting down the stretch.

Foxcroft shot the ball well against the Tigers. Rebar and Kaleb Smith combined to shoot 12-20 from the field. The Ponies shot 24-55 (43.6%) from the field as a team.

"They (Smith and Rebar) brought good energy. I thought everyone that stepped on the floor played pretty well," Carey said. "Energy wise we have played well every night. We have had some nights where we have really struggled to shoot the ball. We played the big guns in our league tough. We just have not grabbed one of those."

Foxcroft (5-10) is currently 16th in the MPA class B heal point standings. The top 13 will qualify for the tournament.

The Ponies are in striking distance of that tournament spot but will most likely need to win their final three games and get some help.

Kaleb Smith said, "If we win out I think we can grab that last spot and be dangerous down the stretch."

Rebar added, "We have to really focus and come out and play. This is our season right here."

Kolby Kendall recorded eight points, seven rebounds, five blocks and two assists for the Ponies. Sam Keane added four points, three rebounds and two assists.Caleb Richard scored two points.

Hunter Law contributed five rebounds, three steals and one assist.

Foxcroft will next play on Wednesday, January 30th when they travel to the Bangor Auditorium for a game against John Bapst.

They will follow that up with home games against Washington Academy and PCHS.

Dylan Graffam led the Tigers with 20 points and 12 rebounds. Matt Crane recorded six points, eight rebounds and two steals.

Ethyn Gould chipped in with six points. Trevor Fogarty added four points, six rebounds and five assists. Casey Jordan scored two points, Bailey Spack put in one free throw.

Dexter (8-6) currently sits at number six in the MPA class C heal point standings.

The Tigers have four games remaining including big heal point games against Bucksport and Stearns.
