Ryan Martinez and his new trainer Jeff Mayweather spoke to ProMMAInsider.com on Wednesday about the challenge awaiting Martinez at Bellator 93. The card, which takes place in Maine, features Ryan Martinez taking on veteran Travis Wiuff in the co-main event.
Thursday night Ryan Martinez makes his third appearance for Bellator as he faces one of the most experienced fighters in all of MMA. Travis Wiuff, a veteran of over 80 fights will be awaiting Martinez in Maine at Bellator 93.
Martinez has undergone some significant changes in his life and career over the past several months. The Colorado native has moved down to Las Vegas with his family, where he now trains.
One of the biggest changes he has made is working with Jeff Mayweather of the legendary Mayweather boxing family. Jeff continues to add to his stable of MMA fighters looking to improve their stand up game. The pairing allows Martinez to not only work with Mayweather, but also fighters such as Roy Nelson and King Mo who also work out of the same gym.
In addition to the work he finds at the Mayweather Boxing Club, Martinez has also been able to work out at some other gyms in the city, which is an advantage he says was not always available previously. The freedom allows him to seek out top level fighters in several different disciplines to hone his craft.
In this interview, Ryan Martinez and Jeff Mayweather tal about the challenge that a veteran like Wiuff presents, how their pairing has gone so far, and the adjustments he has had to make in the move to Las Vegas. While acknowledging the difference between Colorado and Las Vegas, Martinez believes that it is the best thing that could be done for his career. We will see Thursday night if the work so far has paid off.
