Ryan Lochte sets personal best at the Olympic swimming trials

Ryan Lochte made a statement Monday evening at the Olympic Swimming Trials in Omaha when he finished the 400M individual medley in first place with a personal best time of 4:07.06. Ryan will be making his third trip to the Olympic Games when he travels to London next month.

Michael Phelps finished second, becoming the first male swimmer to qualify for a fourth Olympic team. Can Phelps catch Lochte in London? These two veterans are sure to offer an exciting showdown. Expect them both to bring home hardware.

With the focus on Phelps’ historical fourth Olympic team, look for Lochte to train hard and be ready to take the gold medal in the 400M individual medley when they meet up in the 2012 Summer Games.

Also qualifying for the USA Olympic team on Monday night were Peter Vanderkaay and Conor Dwyer in the Men’s 400M freestyle. Vanderkaay makes his third Olympic team. Female swimmers qualifying Monday night were Elizabeth Beisel and Caitlin Leverenz in the Women’s 400M individual medley.

Olympic swimming trials continue Tuesday in Omaha with finals in the Women’s 100M fly, Men’s 100M breast, and Women’s 400M freestyle.
